I thought when you had coaching with Saint, it was to make you all Zen and super calm but speaking to the coaches they say this is far from the truth as they need results and they gave me a nice little story to help remember it so I thought to share it at the end I hope you enjoy it.

It’s about our Dark Side and Light Side, how we need both but we have to get the balance right.

I would have thought most coaching settings are calming and the other executive coaches out there really really do great work whereas the Saint Coaches focus very much on the construction industry only and the madness that brings so we do things a bit different and have great results. Each to their own I suppose.

Most coaching sessions talk through an issue, try to break it down and bring it to a more controlled and calming resolution going forward.

We have found this in itself creates a resistance to people being open to starting a coaching or therapy process. They are so wired and running hot that the mere idea of stopping this adrenaline-driven energy just goes against everything they are feeling in their gut, they would feel disarmed and at the moment that’s all they have left it seems, the body is in a constant push to get it done. This can be exhausting and leads to fatigue or sadness.

At Saint, they work quickly to give you back the control but they also keep the very important snarl of energy. We recognise how important that Dark element is and we just have to learn to live with it a bit better.

It is such a simple technique but the coaches feel it is needed to face the madness we go through.

In short, the coaches are saying yes, work towards ways of calming down elements of your life and try to live in that Lighter side more but it’s ok to feel the other Dark side and accept it, it's just down to unlearning a few bad habits of reacting badly and then applying the Dark energy when you really need it.

Be a bit kinder to yourself, accept there are two sides to you, Dark and Light, Good and Bad, Yin and Yang if you like and then use this as a new foundation for how you now act going forward in how you deal with other people and most importantly yourself.

Here is the story, it’s an old American Indian tale and use it as a reminder or mental anchor as they call it to remind yourself to learn to take a moment and keep that all important balance.

🐺 The Tale of Dark Wolf and The Light Wolf

An old Cherokee Indian chief was teaching his grandson about life.

He is telling him the story of the two great Wolves, one Dark and the other Light in colour.

“The Dark one is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

He continued, "The Light Wolf is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

The same fight is going on inside you grandson…and inside of every other person on the face of this earth.”

The grandson pondered this for a moment and then asked, "Grandfather, which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee smiled and simply said, "The one you feed the most".

📖 Are you feeding the dark side?

Are you feeding the Dark side more than the Light side? It’s all in your daily habits, your thoughts, how you react and how you interact with others. Think about it, can you stop to take a moment to think and start again to get greater rewards in life and relief for you...

The story continues… and most people do not know this part as they have only seen a T-shirt or picture with the famous Wolves verse above usually in a shortened version.

The old Cherokee simply continued...

“If you feed them right, they both win.

You see, if I only choose to feed the Light wolf, the Dark wolf will be hiding around every corner waiting for me to become distracted or weak and jump to get the attention he craves. He will always be angry and will always fight the Light wolf.

But if I acknowledge him, he is happy and the Light wolf is happy and we all win.

The Dark wolf has many qualities – tenacity, courage, fearlessness, strong-willed and great strategic thinking – that I have the need for at times. These are the very things the Light wolf lacks.

But the Light wolf has compassion, caring, strength and the ability to recognise what is in the best interest of all.”

You see, son, the Light wolf needs the Dark wolf at his side.

To feed only one would starve the other and they will become uncontrollable.

To feed and care for both means they will serve you well and do nothing that is not a part of something greater, something good, something of life.

Feed them both and there will be no more internal struggle for your attention. And when there is no battle inside, you can listen to the voices of deeper knowing that will guide you in choosing what is right in every circumstance.”

Peace, my son, is the Cherokee mission in life. A man or a woman who has peace inside has everything. A man or a woman who is pulled apart by the war inside him or her has nothing.

How you choose to interact with the opposing forces within you will determine your life. Starve one or the other or guide them both.”

🎉 That's a wrap!

I hope you enjoyed the story and it's all about making us think and reappear when needed. This resonates with what the Coaches promote, you need the Dark and Light side. Stop the internal battle and just re-use the energy in a balanced way, not too much one way, because the price is paid elsewhere in life.
